Gaap is a mighty Prince and Great President of Southern Hell, commanding sixty-six legions of demons. He is the guide of the four kings — Belial, Beleth, and Asmoday. He is said to be better conjured to appear when the Sun rideth the southern zodiac. Gaap reigneth over the spirits of water, teacheth philosophy and all liberal sciences, stealeth love or hate into the hearts of men, making them insensible or inviolate. He delivereth familiars out of the custody of other magicians, instructeth in the consecration of those things that belong to his rivals, and provides true answers concerning past, present, and future. He bringeth forgetfulness. Gaap beareth men and things speedily from one nation to another at the conjurer's will. The necromancers honour him with sacrifices and burning offerings. He weareth the shape of a man.
